Thank you all. At 40 I am 3 weeks into growing my first beard. The wife hates it. Hmmm more reason to grow it. Personally I like the new look.

Re: Growing a Manly Beard

A lot of positive vibes here. Must let it grow. I envy the full beard, but it is not my lot in life. But I will let it grow. I will end up looking like some obscure Civil War colonel. And yet, I will have made something of myself. Now that I'm retired I'm growing out my beard and hair- I love it! This was a good article and I used it for motivation, I'm 5 weeks in now. I'm dreading the day I have a job interview and all my hard work will literally go down the drain.

Re: Growing a Manly Beard

"A man without a beard is the same as a woman with a beard"---OSHO

Re: Growing a Manly Beard

I too am starting a beard for at least the full summer. At first my wife loved my muttonchops and missed them, but now she calls our clean shaven friends "beardless boys" (quoting Sean Connery as the Green Knight).
I get dandruff in it if I don't oil up. I use a mixture of olive oil and castor oil with a hint of frankincense. It keeps the beard tame, smooth and smelling good.

Re: Growing a Manly Beard

Thank god you answered that issue and included sex appeal as well. Nice job. I'd say men can go with or without as long as it's trimmed appropriately. Too much looks like you're hiding something like a second chin or stomach. Possibly you were on a trip to the North Pole. Even Tom Hanks didn't pull of the huge beard thing.

Re: Growing a Manly Beard

Recently, I shaved my beard to welcome the increasing rays of the Spring sunshine. I have done this now for ten years. I start growing my beard on the first day of Autumn and maintain it through the Winter until Spring arrives. During the Spring and Summer I either maintain a clean shaven look or grow a goatee. But it's interesting how people react to the change. My wife appreciates the clean shaven look but my sons prefer to the beard. Either way, I'm grateful to have a job and a family that likes my beard.

Re: Growing a Manly Beard

Have grow my beard fully for the first time in my life.
