I can't think of the right word.

Re: The Art of Manliness Weekly Roundup: Super Bowl XLII Edition

I once stuck my penis into John Madden's mouth. True story.

Re: The Art of Manliness Weekly Roundup: Super Bowl XLII Edition

@ Lucas- Those are excellent points. Sadly, sports in America has degenerated into thugishness. Even more sad, young boys look to professional players as role models. In addition to the unsportsmanlike conduct on the field, what happened to players carrying themselves with class off the field? Like wearing a suit when you show up for a game. I know some organizations require it, but many don't. I'd like to see that come back as well.

Re: The Art of Manliness Weekly Roundup: Super Bowl XLII Edition

I think we need a "Manliness Guide to Post-Play Celebration." If you saw any of yesterday's game, you undoubtedly noticed the self-promoting gestures and trash-talk following nearly every play.

Punctuation has always been a part of sport and has defined many an athlete (Babe Ruth's called shot, Jordan's tongue, Ali's "...sting like a bee"). But does laying a lick on a wide receiver while giving up a crucial first down really warrant standing over the downed opponent and berating his mamma? If it's a clean hit that takes a guy out of the game, then "good job", you have done something. But when a guy springs back up and hustles back to the huddle, you still gave up the first down.

Sports reporters should follow up on this irrelevant and premature celebration, forcing manliness accountability. For example: "So Randy Moss, when you were celebrating in the endzone after your touchdown pass to put your team ahead with 2 1/2 minutes left you made a parting gesture with your hands, did you think that you had won the ballgame and therefore were doing the impossible (going undefeated), like Moses parting the Red Sea?

I think true manliness is adding punctuation when warranted, trash talk to silence the proud, and sportsmanship to the wounded.

Re: The Art of Manliness Weekly Roundup: Super Bowl XLII Edition

It's meaningless now cause the Jints won, but to all of us in New York who bleed Giant blue, we could see it coming. Never trademark 19-0 the week before the big game. And the Pats were the 4th team to go undefeated in the regular season.

Re: The Art of Manliness Weekly Roundup: Super Bowl XLII Edition

Prediction: As nice as it would be for the NY Giants to walk away with a ring today, it's not going to happen. Tom Brady can walk circles around Manning, and the Giants are out-matched in nearly every position. My prediction for today's game:

Patriots: 27
Giants: 17

Re: The Art of Manliness Weekly Roundup: Super Bowl XLII Edition

The '73 Dolphins went undefeated, so the Pats would be the second. The Patriots are the first to do it with the 16-game schedule.

There's also the 1948 Browns who went undefeated in the AAFC before it became the NFL.

Re: The Art of Manliness Weekly Roundup: Super Bowl XLII Edition

I found your site on google blog search and read a few of your other posts.
