No way I'd want to go back to the times of polio, Nazism, segregation, and Depressions. But I agree that our idealized version of the past can be a great motivator for the future.

Re: The Art of Manliness Weekly Roundup: The James Gang Edition

Well, as a historian, I'm never one to long for the "good old days" but that's no reason not to take an idealised past as an example for the future.

Re: The Art of Manliness Weekly Roundup: The James Gang Edition

@ Frugal dad- Outkast. Yes. They do have an Outkast vibe about them.

Re: The Art of Manliness Weekly Roundup: The James Gang Edition

Thanks for including my article in the roundup! Personally, I liked The James Gang...sort of remind me of some of the throwback music from Outkast. And kudos to them for originality!

Re: The Art of Manliness Weekly Roundup: The James Gang Edition

Their music wasn't all that great to me. They did a pretty good job, but not spectacular. I'll need to listen to more for it to grow on me.

I think what really made them stand out was their appearance and clothing. This is right in line with the theme of this site, which again, is touching a nerve that many people yearn for - the throwback to when things were "different".

Great list...The Simple Dollar article is a MUST read!!!!
